Missing Link Network

SO what exactly IS the Missing Link Network? To put it simply, it’s a network of websites / blogs that are owned and operated by John Whelan. The cornerstone of the network is his personal blog which is titled Missing Link.

Each of the member sites of the Missing Link Network offers something different, they are:

Missing Link:

M issing Link is the personal weblog of John Whelan. On it he writes about almost anything that’s on his mind, though recently he has focused the blog to be more about his personal life than outside influences. From time to time, however, he will write about politics and other issues, but generally from his own perspective. There is no set topic here, but in the future Technology related posts will be posted elsewhere.

You Will Get a Virus:

You Will Get a Virus is a technology blog started in February of 2008 as a spinoff of Missing Link. John noticed that a significant portion of his posts on Missing Link were related to technology, and in many cases of little care or concern of his readers. For the sake of his readers (and in an effort to regain his initial vision of Missing Link) John decided to split the technology aspect of Missing Link off into it’s own blog. Youwillgetavirus.com was born. The domain name idea came from a post on Missing Link (and subsequent comments by Kyle Purple) in November of 2006. The sole focus of this blog is technology, not just computers but TV, Home Automation, etc. Generally techs covered by YWGAV will be techs John is working with, or that have been requested by readers.

Fred The Frog dot Net (FTFdN):

FTFdN is a website of and about a small stuffed frog named Fred. Fred writes about his mis-adventures, life living with John and his thoughts on the world at large. Often highly entertaining, FTFdN is the Missing Link Network’s foray into comedy. Written by John, but from the viewpoint of Fred, it can be a very fun read. FTFdN is currently in it’s second incarnation as, for technical reasons, John didn’t copy the original site over to the new servers when he moved to new hosting, this is a fresh take on Fred The Frog.

Something Delicious:

We all like to eat, right? The goal of Something Delicious is to create a repository for recipes that are easy to make and taste good. In short, the end goal is to have a place where you can find…. something delicious. John is an aspiring cook and will personally try each of the recipes posted, and take pictures of the finished product, plus write a review on difficulty to prepare, taste, etc. If you like food, this blog is for you. Something Delicious is scheduled to go live with it’s first recipes in mid-late February of 2008.

UFO Extra:

The Missing Link Network, in conjunction with the Filer Research Institute, brings you up to date information on the investigations of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO’s).  This is the online home of Filer’s Files, a weekly newsletter put together by retired USAF Intelligence Officer George Filer and hosted by John Whelan.  If you are interested in UFOs this is a must read.

What is Missing Link

Missing Link is a personal blog of John Whelan.

John is a 26 year old information security professional from Indianapolis Indiana. He spends much of his time working on computer networks or some facet of his house - whether it be home automation or landscaping. The rest of his time he spends with his fiance Ann, or reading and relaxing - sometimes both.

Right out of college, John and his friend Brian started several mobile technology companies in the Indianapolis area - Proxito, Bouncepad and DeftMobile. The aims of the companies were to provide relevant information to people on the go via their mobile phones.

John has since left the companies and works full time in information security.
