It’s been a little while since I’ve written anything here (or, for that matter, any of my blogs). There’s really no good reason for it other than I’ve had a distinct lack of motivation to put fingers to keyboard and actually do it. Plenty has happened, from my grandma having a blood vessel burst in her brain last week to Ann finishing painting the dining room ( with a little help from a very appreciative John), to me cooking Ann and Maura (one of my sisters, for those who haven’t heard the name before) – I have plenty of things I could write about, yet I wasn’t motivated to so I didn’t.

So, today – after a few gulps of liquid motivation (aka: Coffee), I thought I would take a few moments to write about a few of those topics up above.

Last Wednesday I went to dinner with my buddy Jason and a co-worker of his, Calvin. Both are really cool and really nice guys and I had a great dinner – Jason just happens to be one of the “techie” guys I know, and so there’s usually plenty of geeky conversation to go around – something that’s usually lacking with my other friends (which is perfectly fine with me).

After dinner I headed home, and about 3 minutes before I got to my house my phone rang – it was my Dad telling me my grandmom was in the hospital, that a blood vessel had burst in her brain and they were waiting on a neurosurgeon to arrive. I told him I’d feed the cat and change clothes then head that way, then called Ann and told her what was going on. She said she’d come with, so I fed Poppi and threw on some new clothes, started a download and headed out the door.

Grandma didn’t look good when I got to the hospital, and was shortly thereafter put into ICU.

Thankfully, Thursday she got out of ICU as they stopped the bleeding and said she was in more stable condition. Now, aside from a nasty headache, she seems to be doing much better which is a relief to everyone.

Completely changing subjects, Ann took some time yesterday to finish painting the dining room in my house (she volunteered). She did most of the work and I helped fill in a few areas that needed second coats or touchups. She then helped clean the floors, as dried paint flecks came off the tarps all over the floor. We got the house mostly cleaned up and it really honestly looks great.

We also hung some paintings in the dining room, which I think look really good there. The one thing we realized, however, is that the color we used in the dining room is NOT going to go throughout the rest of the downstairs – It’d just be too….much. I love it in the dining room, but really think it’d be too much of the same color if I put it everywhere. Ann found a color she thinks will look good, Honey Blush (where do they come up with these names? seriously…), and I agree – I need to get paint samples of it so we can get the great room painted. I also need to pick up a flat black to use on my kitchen cabinets.

After all the painting and cleaning, I cooked dinner for Ann and my sister Maura (bow tie pasta with Italian sausage, red sweet peppers and basil). It turned out really well, and Ann and I really enjoyed the meal. It was a nice opportunity for Maura and Ann to spend some time together as up to this point they’ve not really had the opportunity.

Maura made a really tasty chocolate pie for dessert, very tasty.

After that we relaxed for a little while before Maura, then Ann, had to leave.

Good weekend, all in all, especially since Grandma is doing better.
