Sometimes real life just gets in the way…

I’ve been fairly remiss about writing in this blog for the past few weeks. Part of the reason for that is due to being busy doing other things, which is true up to a point, but I think a far greater cause has been a combination of lack of motivation and the fact that I’ve been writing in my pen & paper journal almost every night.
Sometimes the things I write in my leather bound journal do find their way into an electronic format for you all to read – such as an earlier entry on here about Snapple. Sometimes I just vent about events or people, the result of which is not appropriate to put in such a public forum as this. Lately, however, my entries in the leather bound journal are of the latter type – Things I don’t want on my blog. Because of that, I’ve lacked the necessary motivation, and inspiration, to write anything on here.
A little over a week ago (as I write this) I managed to get what could quite possibly be the best shot of my hockey-photography career. While shooting with Wikman from the penalty box, one of the Ice players checked a Fargo player into the penalty box – the results were fairly spectacular. I managed to keep my wits about me and keep shooting even while seeking to avoid bodily injury in the process. (The photo at the top of this post is the result.)
I have been working quite a bit lately, and have a lot of projects that I’m working on that actually have me fairly excited. Unfortunately, I can’t really share with you what those projects are, but I enjoy working on them. I can (and have), however, share a look at where I work. This is my desk / computer in my office at work. Most of you can probably see why I love working where I do (and those of you with eagle eyes will now also know WHERE I work) – I definitely have one awesome office. My office is essentially the Security Operations Center, and is where we monitor the firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems throughout all of our different networks. I did not alter the lighting at all for dramatic affect – that’s how we keep it all the time. As far as my offices go – this one is probably the best I’ve had.
Aside from work and hockey photography, I’m still managing to work on a few photo projects that have me trying out new techniques to take interesting pictures. One of note is my Stormtrooper series that I’ve been posting on flickr – I’m having a lot of fun with that one. The other project that has been taking more of my interest lately is low-light photography, specifically shooting at night with long shutter speeds. This shot was taken last night and is a 25 second exposure of part of my deck / back yard. Tonight Ann and I are going to try light painting with flashlights and colored filters. I love doing stuff like this as it allows me to be creative and try new things. Sometimes they work better than I anticipated, other times they don’t really work at all. Nearly every time, though, I learn something and have fun doing it.
So that’s what I’ve been up to lately. I hope that through the holiday season I can stay more up to date on here. I’ve got a considerable amount of time off in the coming month – hopefully that will help.
