Once again I’ve gone too long without posting anything. Work has been a touch on the rough side for the past week, and the week before that I was out doing training (it’s nice when a company will pay for you to receive training!), which has added up to two weeks without anything from me here. I’ve actually wanted to sit down and write here and talk about the fun things I’ve been up to. While they aren’t all that spectacular, and many of them are likely not of much interest to anybody, I still feel like sharing so will do so.
I’ve spent some more time hanging out with my friends and fellow photographers – the Wikmans (They’re Ann’s friends too, for those of you who are picky
) which is always a good time. In the course of this, I picked up my ID for the Indiana Ice, and am looking forward to this season and increasing my skills and contributing to the photography ‘team’. The first home game is coming this saturday and I’m excited.
This past weekend Ann and I stuck around our neck of the woods (pun only slightly intended, once you read the rest of the post you’ll get it). We ran some errands and generally goofed off. Both Saturday and Sunday we went to Eagle Creek park to hike around and enjoy time in nature – something we keep wanting to do but always have something else going on. We were lucky to be able to get out there not once , but twice! This park will always have a special place in our lives, as it’s where I proposed to Ann a little over a year ago. Sadly, this was our first trip back after the proposal.
As I’ve done for a while now, whenever we go to the park I take along my camera. One reason is that I want to have memories of our trips to remember. The other reason is that I enjoy taking pictures of nature and want to improve my skills in that area of photography. I’m starting to get more shots that I am satisfied with, which is a good feeling. The third and final reason I take my camera is because I like taking pictures of Ann, and this provides an opportunity to do so outside of the house / our yard. Same subject but different scenery really helps keep it fresh.
This weekend also allowed me to start laying the ground work for some other photography projects I’ve got in mind. I got some of the props / stars of the projects (hint: LEGO and other assorted toys), and now just need to work on sets, the story I want to tell with the pictures, and general shot setup. I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from others and really hope I can pull things off like I see them in my head. A gloriously wonderful side effect of all of this is that I got to play with LEGO’s again for the first time in MANY years! I had to hide much of the absolute glee I felt from Ann, lest she think she married a child. I think some of it slipped through anyways – but I don’t care. Say what you want – LEGOs are still just as cool and fun as they were when I was a kid.
So – things are just as exciting now as ever – I’m having a blast and am really looking forward to the various little projects and things looming on the horizon. I think the only thing I want to do now that I won’t get to for a little while is travel. It’s likely that I’ll back in Las Vegas later this year, but it’s looking like the trip to Israel will probably take place early next year due to some timing issues. But that’s business travel. The kind I want to do is pleasure. I want to travel and go hiking, backpacking, rafting down a river, or something similar – with Ann. We both really enjoy nature, and I know she would love the spectacular vistas and scenery nature can provide. Getting the chance to photograph them would just be a bonus for me.
As always – these photos, and the others I took this weekend, are available on my flickr photostream.

Beautiful pictures! And you sound like my husband with Legos. It’s okay. I’m sure Ann, like myself, already knew we married large children, so there’s no hiding, haha!
