And on the first day, Jobs announced the iPhone, and it was good.

Not too long ago, I was having some beers with my friend Jason. I got on the topic of how I hate my cell phone, a Motorola Razr, and had been looking for a good smartphone replacement. I’d been looking primarily at the Palm Treo, which was the best of the lackluster selection of available phones. He told me he understood my plight, and felt the same way about his razr.
That wait, is now over. I had, in the past couple of weeks, been anticipating the opening of Macworld, where I had a sneaking suspicion that Steve Jobs would be announcing an Apple branded cell phone. The rumor mills have been abuzz with word that the iPhone would be announced. Sure enough, it was. As far as features go, the iPhone seems to be chalk full of them, and ( if the video’s on Apple’s website are to be believed) they are nothing short of revolutionary. At $499 a pop (for the 4 gig model) they’d damned well better be!
The features, including complete multi-touch touchscreen interface, bluetooth wifi and edge networking support, a widescreen mode ( put it on it’s side and the screen becomes a widescreen interface), 4 gigs of storage space and more, are all pretty spectacular.
This is the answer to my call for a smart phone that integrates everything I could want to do on the go into one slick, easy to use interface. If only it weren’t $500.
That’s OK, I will probably save up money and be prepared to get one when they become available. Never before have I really cared that much about a phone before, this one, though, promises to make using a phone fun again.
Now all we have to do is find a way to integrate proxito to be on that phone…

Totally. This is almost everything I ever wanted in a cell phone. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m probably leaving the country soon and therefore signing a 2-year cell phone contract would be utterly retarded of me, I’d be the fifth guy in line to buy one of these⦠not the first, second, third, or fourth, because I’m not that dedicated.

I plan on probably leaving the country eventually, but I have a feeling by the time I do the iPhone will be availble elsewhere too. It uses quad-band gsm, which is what international cell companies use, so it comes out of the box with international support, at least infrastructure wise.

I’m sure there will likely be some bugs initially, there always are, but I’m betting this device will be easy to upgrade the software on….. as easy as it is for an ipod.
Largely, I’d venture to say that with Apple behind the product, there won’t be many bugs to be found.
